Dr. Charles R. Dufort, D.M.D. writes... There's a product that really enhances the fabrication of single unit provisional crowns. It's called DirectCrown and there are two features that improve clinical performance. First, the preformed tooth colored shell has no proximal contacts and can be easily adjusted and seated in the gingival areas. The second is the acrylic resin that sets hard in just 90 to 120 seconds. The acrylic resin has a good "feel" when carving with a hand piece, has excellent toughness, takes a good polish, and is easy to add-on to. Just place the shell filled with acrylic resin on the tooth and remove in 30 seconds while the material is beginning to set to prevent locking on the tooth.

I have had the recent pleasure of utilizing the DirectCrown temporary and cannot express how much I enjoyed the once dreaded task of making the temporary. This has got be be one of dentistry's best-kept secrets! I am so impressed with the ease these temporaries are to make, and their excellent quality. Trimming is easy, margins are excellent and since a minimum of material is used, shrinkage is minimal. Initially, I was hesitant to utilize this temporary system as I have perfected a 5-minute temporary with excellent margins and contacts using baseplate wax to make a pre-op mold and injecting 3M's Isotemp into the mold then seating it onto the prepped tooth. This method is extremely expensive, but I have been using it for the last 2 years due to the excellent results. The reason I tried the DirectCrown technique was because I had a walk-in emergency patient that had lost her crown many months ago, and therefore was not a good candidate for my baseplate wax technique. The DirectCrown technique is "idiot proof", economical, and provides excellent stabilization. Since the material sets so rapidly, the temporary is made in half the time of even the quick setting Isotemp. I simply cannot imagine making temporaries any other way now, I am hooked and have been telling everyone I know about this wonderful way to make temporaries.

From Dr. Gary S. Padgett, Lecanto, FL... I wanted to take a moment to thank you and commend you regarding your DirectCrown product. In the past, for posterior temporization I have always used a small putty impression and then used that as my shim for my acrylic. Since I have found your DirectCrown kit, I no longer find a need to fabricate my posterior temporaries that way. It is now a simple procedure to choose the correct size and reline and trim. My staff is used to fabricating single units from a blob of acrylic. They have now started using your product and find their job easier and faster and are thrilled with the results. Christina Saxe, Fort Collins, CO writes... I am writing this letter in regards to the new DirectCrown System. I have been an expanded duty dental assistant for 25 years. Through the years I have tried all the techniques available to make temporary crowns i.e. putty impression, wax impression, Gold Ion's, Stainless Steel Crowns, Perfec Temp and custom acrylic temps. I have never been completely satisfied. Now that we have found DirectCrown System so easy to use, it takes a lot less trimming time; gives perfect occlusion with minor adjustments or none at all. The setting time on added acrylic is very fast. Our office highly recommends the system. We have been using this system for 4 months now and have found no problems or concerns with this product.

We switched to using DirectCrowns for about ninety-five percent of our posterior temporaries. The ease of use of this product is extraordinary. The patients like that they have a "tooth colored" temporary and I like the customizing aspect of holding the space while waiting for the permanent crown to be fabricated. These crowns greatly reduce the "drifting" of adjacent teeth. The occlusal surface is easily marked for adjustments and the margins are usually easy to read. Thank you for making my job easier.
